Measuring blood pressure
Blood pressure monitors are used to measure blood pressure.Blood pressure (BP) is the pressure exerted by circulating blood on blood-vessel walls. Blood pressure that is too low or too high is dangerous and poses a health risk. Blood pressure measurements consist out of two readings: the systolic pressure (upper reading) and the diastolic pressure (lower reading). Systolic pressure is the pressure exerted on blood-vessel walls during the heart’s contraction, when blood is pumped out to the body. Diastolic pressure is the pressure exerted on blood-vessel walls during the heart’s expansion, when the heart relaxes and fills with blood again.
