Measuring asthma with a peakflowmeter
A peak flowmeter, or a peak current meter, is a device with a nozzle that can be blown. The meter on the peak flow meter shows how much air is blown out. The peak current is the amount of air that one can blow out at one time. The wider the air flow, the greater the peak current. The value that appears indicates whether the patient has asthma and whether the medication works well. In asthma, the airways are temporarily narrowed, causing the peak current to be smaller than normal.
